Neve ParitzkiIsrael's first cycling tunnel opens in Jerusalem

The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience which is loved by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel, has been inaugurated in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles the capital city.

The tunnel links Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entrance is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park.  נווה פריצקי The northern entrance can be found in Nahal Ein Kerem.

Jerusalem was a popular tourist destination due to its glorious past. Elkin said that, the present along with its rich history, the tunnel project also incorporates modern-day tourism. "The opening of this tunnel is a further stage in the growth of Jerusalem as an ideal tourism destination for all kinds of people throughout Israel and around the globe."

Elkin who, along with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, said his ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year to develop all aspects of Jerusalem's tourism and in the creation of innovative tourist attractions and ventures that link the rich history of our eternal capital to the future of Jerusalem... I invite all cyclists to take a trip and enjoy the modern, well-maintained route that overlooks Old Jerusalem.


Elkin's Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25,000,000 to the project. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

The Kerem Tunnel was first excavated in the late 1990s to relocate the main sewer line from the Gihon Corporation toward the purification plant in Sorek It is situated west of the city and is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel.  נווה פריצקי It also houses the fifth water line, which connects to Jerusalem of the Mekorot water company.

To make the tunnel usable to the public all year round the work includes road construction, as well as installing blowers.
